Taghkanic Board unfair to Residents Paul Nostrand and Richard Graham. Resident Paul Nostrand, who was accused by Barbara Hermance of verbal attacking her and causing her to feel threaten at last months meeting, submitted a document of rebuttal to the Board. In shocking turn of events the Board refused to read the rebuttal to the public. It seem that the Town Board will allow Hermance to assassinates the good character of one of our finest residents but when the victim comes before for the Board for rebuttal, the Board turns a deaf ear and refuses to let the statement of the victim be heard. "I am a miff Paul, that the Board took this type of action against you." Mr. Nostrand was not alone in his dilemma. Richard Graham was accused in a Zoning Board report by Chairperson Barbara Hermance as being a no-show at the February 20th Zoning Board meeting, that was held on a legal holiday. However a document obtain through legal channels shows that Hermance was notified, by her special town counsel Rob Fitzsimmions, that Graham would not be appearing at the request of his counsel. The letter was faxed to Hermance on February 16, 2006, three days before the Zoning Board meeting and 19 days before her report was read at the Town Board meeting. The Town Board took pain staking efforts to cover up these deliberate assaults by Barbara Hermance without allowing residents to defend their good names. Hermance as used these tactics for years for the purpose of destroying the reputations of residents by smearing their names in the public record, which by the way, is part of a historical record now. We might ask ourselves where the hell is our official news paper "The Independent" when this is going on and is the Reporter for the "Register Star" deaf or on the pay off.?
Comments:
, I commend you for offering a news source for our town! I have serious doubts that "fairness" will ever prevail in this town.

Am I wrong.. I don't remember seeing ANYONE running against the "board". I can't foresee changes if the process is not used to make the changes... Who is willing to take on the job to make the changes?

If you would like to take on an issue... Do you have any idea what it would take to get our school district changed? It seems many neighbors have paid tuition to have their children in Taconic Hills... $5500/year 3 years ago on top of property/school taxes. Hudson School District is certainly doing NOTHING to help our property values! And it only seems to be getting worse.

I don't know where the Inde is, but I'll tell you this; the reporter for the RS who actually does come to the meetings probably doesn't write about your e-mail problem because it is attorney client privilege. It doesn't effect most people in the town. And that's the end of that. And as for the alleged shouting between Ms. Hermance and Mr. Nostrand, I hear it happened (or didn't happen depending on who you ask) after the comp plan meeting. So it isn't something mainstream media would cover. Unless you think they should be covering every instance of angered words? I wasn't at the comp plan meeting, so I don't know what happened, but let bygones be bygones. The meeting report is on record. Mr. nostrand's rebuttal is on record. Those who wish to know what happened get both sides in a FOIL. Why do you think it is still a problem? I understand you may think it is a matter of principle, but let's face it, few newspapers report on matters of principle these days. Keep reporting Mr. Graham, I find your commentary enlightening.

Debbie, you are right about property/school tax being unfair. In my next news letter I hope to shed some light on that issue.
Thank you for your support.
Rick Graham, Taghkanic press.

To Non-news, you may feel that this is an issue that does not meet a standard. How do you know that it not being done to others.
I have live in this town for thirty years and worst thing anyone can do when a punk politician steps on your toes is to let bygones be bygones.
I found that whenever people take that approach the next person to fall victom to that politician will get their foot crushed.
And I do have a big problem with secret information being keep by this town on its residents.

I do thank you for your support
Rick Graham

True, if these things are happening to other people than it definitely does become more newsworthy. If only others would come forward, which they have not. It would lend more to your cause. Of course, it could be an isolated incident. Without the testimonials of others it really is impossible to say.

While it is commendable to show concern for the feet of others, if I can borrow your analogy, I do find that you sling a lot of mud in your articles that I find extremely hard to believe because you show no evidence of it.

How do you come to the conclusion that Mr. Rochler, which is who I assume you mean whenever you speak of a state trooper, is doing "illegal background checks" on town residents? Do you have proof? If not, you shouldn't report it in your articles. The backbone of journalism is being able to back up with hard evidence what you write about. Which is why many, many stories aren't written. It isn't always easy to do.

Out of curiosity, what do you believe was said in these e-mails you are so adamant about seeing? I am unfamiliar with your case.

And to grab your last sentence in your reply, what "secret information" do you know, and I repeat know, is being kept on people? If you have found out about it, where did you discover it. If it is happening, I'm sure the people wish to know where you learned of it so they can learn of it themselves.

Again, continue to write.

non-news, First let say the e-mails, as well as long phone conversation were discovered throught Foil. When I Foiled a years worth of vouchers (payments from the town to the attorney)you would be suprised at the amount e-mails and phone call that went on concerning other residents. I thought of listing thier names so that could try to foil their e-mails.I can tell you as a former public official of this town that when you consult the towns attorney in regard to an applicatant you let them, the applicant or their attorney, know that you have done so and the reason for doing so. You ask also about the back-round checks, I saw mine being shuffeld across the table from Rochler to Hermance. But the point now is moot. With the heat I'v caused there should be no doubt that the document is forever gone. Also, the very point of wanting to view these e-mails is to find out what was said and what actions were taken place. I think we can both be sure that Hermance and Rochler were not sending an awarding winning resume on Rick Graham to the Towns attorney.
